OVERVIEW 1st & Hope Skateboard Video
1st and Hope is a film about an afternoon spent skating through downtown L.A. This film is dedicated to exploring an old-fashioned approach to street skating: It is not just the tricks we flic, it is also the quality of the roll. Kenny Anderson and myself meet at the top of the hill and cruise down through the city, eventually making our way to the Staples Center. We session various spots and meet up with many old friends along the way.
I have tried to paint a picture of what it can be like to skate through the magical city with friends. People, traffic, architecture - they all add to the quality of the rolls. How did we get to be here smiling and sweating to so happily, while so many folks sulk and brood coming and going from workaday jobs? And doesn't it tickle these tall buildings and streets (once mountains and riverbeds) to be rolled through and played in?
