Mystery Left - The first of the Billabong Challenge series brought together the top surfers of the time in a truely unique competition. This bold new direction in competition surfing enticed eight hot surfers from around the globe to battle a dangerous shark infested reef at a secret location on the remote desert coast of outback Australia.
J-Bay - The seconde Billabong Challenge continued the pursuit of great surfing in great waves, setting the example for what is today called the "Dream Tour". Held in massive surf on the last day of the ten day waiting period at the worlds most perfect right hander Jeffrey's Bay, South Africa. A challenge against each other, the awesome forces of the sea and their own personal stamina.
Psychedelic Desert Groove - A balance of wind, tide and consistent deep ocean swells are the factors that control the destiny of the Billabong Challenge. Eight world renowned surfers discover big clean gnarly barrels in a contest that will not comprimise.
Nine Lives - A beautiful wooden sail boat was the base for the 4th Billabong Super Challence. Small surf turned the event into a 5 day expressions session. The next year the 5th Super challenge created a new format that would not only produce one great session, but several, where one man stood out among the others to collect the US $50,000.
Alley Oop/Wide Open - As modern surfing leaps into the future a new breed of hot surfers merge the energetic moves of snowboarding and skating with the traditions of rhythm and flow as they feverishly attack any wave in any condition.
